The Cats charged out of the blocks with four goals to none in the first quarter and they led by 17 points at half-time on the back of strong performances from Josh Spencer, Jakeb Meyer and Josh Quick.
But the Blues showed why they are the form team of the competition with coach Simon Hillier and talented youngsters Liam Tobin and Sam Gorupic helping Mitta stick its nose in front at the last change – a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
“It was a really tight game but we managed to push through and get the win,” Hillier said.
“They definitely played well in the first quarter and we were second to the ball so we really put a bit of pressure on ourselves to lift from that point on.
“It was a really high-pressure game, almost finals-like, so it was all about contested ball.”
