With injuries still keeping City's best team on the sidelines, an 85th minute goal from David Woodall garnered a point from the clash and kept the side's top eight hopes intact.
While the Hotspurs moved into eighth placed thanks to their 4-0 win over Wodonga Diamonds, coach Matt Maw said he was pleased with the result.
“We're absolutely happy with that sort of result,” he said.
“Obviously we want to be winning, but the way we've been travelling, to hold an in-form club like Wangaratta to a draw is a positive.
“We stuck to it and were able to get a late goal.
“In weeks gone by we might have gone three or four goals down.”
Maw side Albury City's lineup remained largely unchanged from the last outing, where they were competitive against Cobram in greasy conditions.
Patrick Brown, Michael Pertzel and Trent Duffy are all yet to return to the City lineup.
We stuck to it and were able to get a late goal. In weeks gone by we might have gone three or four goals down in that situation.
