Supplies to the silver city are under threat due to supply and quality problems from the Darling, pipe and pump failure and the depletion of ground water.
The call from Sophie Mirabella to build dams right now has greater relevance so that water can be transferred within the Murray Darling Basin and beyond.
Bendigo and Ballarat are tapped into basin water and the north south pipeline is able to deliver basin water to Melbourne.
Of course the Greens and the local independent Cathy McGowan say no more dams. In fact, the Greens want to legislate for a permanent prohibition on new large scale dams on Australian rivers.
Spotlight
With all the local political spotlight on the seat of Indi the seat of Farrer is now having its day in the sun, with the loss of a candidate, the destruction of how to vote cards and two independents joined at the hip.
It is a ripper that one independent is the campaign manager for another. Talk about an admiration society. No doubt they will exchange preferences.
We have so much to applaud in our political system and we must defend the right of agreement and disagreement.

The ALP candidate for Farrer has stood down after he was accused of unsavory links. He has cried foul but a merciless media has seen him undone and now ALP voters will not have a candidate.
The senseless and wanton destruction of Green how to vote cards must be deplored, as it strikes at the heart of the Australian sense of fair play. We have so much to applaud in our political system and we must defend the right of agreement and disagreement. It is sacrosanct.
Investment
Wallaby has always said that the major problem with overseas investment in agricultural land is that owners making decisions many thousand kilometres away may decide to sell.
The current owners of the historic Morris vineyard at Rutherglen, Pernod Ricard, has decided to sell.
Let us hope that a friendly buyer comes forward and saves the day and jobs continue.
