Mum Donna Franz said the eight-year-old was faring well.
“It’s taken him a little bit of time to adjust from the side effects of radiation, it’s been a bit hard and sluggish,” she said.
“But the results are looking great, he’s as good as he can be.”
Doctors told Donna and her husband Shane there was a chance the tumour could shrink even more in the 12 months after surgery.
This was a relief for the Thurgoona family, after an initial scan post-surgery was inconclusive.
“After this week we’re feeling relieved, that it’s going backwards and not forwards,” Mrs Franz said.
But Mrs Franz admitted travelling to Melbourne was sometimes financially challenging. “It’s hard to get accommodation if there’s no room at Ronald McDonald House,” she said.
Ryleigh is due for another scan in four months.
