The Hoppers are undertaking a review of their coaching structure but the Brownlow medallist said he was in it for the long haul at Bunton Park.
Akermanis has chased assistant roles at AFL clubs in the past but said he was keen to sign a three-year deal to stay with the Hoppers.
“I am super keen to re-sign,” he said.
“It would be great to get some stability with the coaching so we can re-sign our players and recruits moving forward.
“We have processes in place with the mid-season review and with any luck we can have that ticked off by the football committee as soon as possible so we can start to build for next year and beyond.”
The Hoppers made the elimination final under Akermanis, who was just inducted into the Brisbane Lions’ Hall of Fame, in 2013 and last season.
