In a crucial match against fellow championship contenders Twin City, the Roar had seized a 3-0 lead within just five minutes.
Visa player Bill Puckett netted the Roar's first three goals in the first, second and fourth minutes to put the Wanderers on the back foot from the outset.
But they responded in kind through Matt Hasler in the 7th minute, kicking off a free-flowing and high-scoring game.
The Roar's early advantage was too much for the Wanderers though, as the visitors banked a 7-3 win.
“How we responded after last week's disappointment was very important,” Cobram coach Adam Gatcum said.
“Our main focus for the game was to make sure the intensity was high.
“We knew we had to get back to basics.
“It was a very pleasing response, however we kept letting them back into the game which was a little bit frustrating.
“But to have those points on the board as early as we did held us in good stead.”
The Roar will play Hotspurs on Thursday night to catch up on their earlier abandoned fixture.
