Only a handful of years after asking fellow runners to support her on a 100-metre run, Jones has entered Sunday’s Gold Coast Marathon.
“Debbie was a hesitant runner with poor self-confidence in her own ability and has progressed to doing all forms of track and fun runs in the local area and nationally,” club publicity officer Nadia Mellor said.
“She has also challenged herself to do a Women’s Only Tri and her confidence has grown with each distance she has participated in.
“Debbie has been an inspiration to others in the club and is held in very high regard.
“The Wodonga Athletics Club know she will run a dream race.”
In a rapid rise, Jones has completed eight half marathons in Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
She has churned out over 1000 kilometres this year.
Jones originally attended Wodonga Athletics Club meets to provide support for her children.
