The three-kilometre section between Tooles Road and John Schubert Drive in Baranduda had sparked concerns to a Wodonga traffic liaison committee.
Wodonga Council’s planning and infrastructure director Leon Schultz said he supported the change, which would bring the speed limit in line with the nearby sections of Kiewa Valley Highway.
“Both ourselves, Victoria Police and VicRoads are certainly in favour of it,” he said.
“We would encourage the community to have their say.”
An 80-year-old Wodonga woman died from head injuries in March during a crash with another car on the corner of Kiewa Valley Highway and Baranduda Drive.
Traffic heading to nearby Trinity College and Bandiana Primary School used the stretch of road.
“There is certainly pedestrian and cycling traffic that come along those side roads,” Mr Schultz said.
“Every reduction in speed contributes to an accident being less severe.”
VicRoads will make the final decision.
