We also want to share the history of our arrival and settlement in the regions. We feel supported and welcomed here on the Border
- Nyombe Nyambura
The African cultural night on July 9 aims to highlight the diversity of the continent.
African Union Albury-Wodonga vice-president Nyombe Nyambura invited everyone to join in.
“We have seen the number of Africans growing on the Border,” he said. “Africa has 54 countries but we have 11 countries at least represented in Albury-Wodonga.”
Mr Nyambura said the evening would help people meet newcomers to the area.
“We also want to share the history of our arrival and settlement in the regions,” he said. “Some of us have had a struggle getting into the country but we feel supported and welcomed here on the Border.”
Murray Valley Sanctuary Refugee Group president Penny Vine said the festival music and feasting would be joyous.
“I guess because they’ve had suffering and so on, they really understand how to celebrate when things are going well,” she said.
The festival begins from 5pm at Catholic College Wodonga, 1 Bowman Court, with a gold coin donation requested at the door.
