The council's economic development and tourism director will be filling in for general manager Frank Zaknich, who has taken annual leave.
One of her first duties as acting general manager will be the extraordinary council meeting on Monday night to deal with a rescission motion relating to a community poll on future aquatics facilities.
Ms Squire is one of council’s four directors and will be acting general manager for the first time.
She was promoted as a fifth council director by Mr Zaknich’s predecessor Les Tomich, in 2010.
Mr Zaknich reduced the numbers of directors to four when former finance director Judy Charlton was appointed Narrandera Shire general manager.
Fellow Albury director Michael Keys was acting general manager in the period between Mr Tomich officially departing and Mr Zaknich’s appointment.
The council was dead-locked 4-all on the pool poll before mayor Henk van de Ven used his casting vote to ensure the poll went ahead as part of the September council elections.
But Cr Alice Glachan lodged the rescission motion less than 24 hours after the council decision.
Cr van de Ven refused to be drawn into the prospect of changing his mind on Monday night and backing the rescission motion which would stop the poll going ahead.
“I will make up my mind on Monday night,” he said.
“I’ve had some conversations with other councillors already and am going to have further conversations over the weekend with them to see where things are at.”
An alternative motion to re-word the community poll question cannot be considered on Monday night.
Meanwhile, a 2.5 per cent pay rise for the Albury mayor and councillors was approved by councillors this week.
The 2.5 per cent rise was determined by the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal with the mayor’s additional allowance increasing to $41,090 and the councillor allowance increasing to $18,840.
It is an increase of $1002 for the mayor and $461 for a councillor.
The beneficiaries of the increase will be the incoming council.
