While Raynes is missing 10 first grade players due to injury and unavailability ahead of Saturday’s clash against Leeton at Murrayfield, he isn’t making excuses.
“We are still struggling but the ones we have are good to go,” Raynes said.
“The core group is digging pretty deep and it’s quite admirable.
“We talk about injuries and that stuff but that can be disrespectful to the guys who are out there.
“On Thursday night, the rain was blowing vertically across the field but the forward pack decided to put in extra time on the track.”
Leeton is sitting third on the ladder behind Waratahs and Tumut and is coming off a thrilling 22-19 win over Griffith.
Raynes believes Phantoms coach Seru Rogo has his team well-drilled for a crack at the premiership.
“He’s the smartest coach in the comp,” Raynes said.
