Albury City, who benefited from the return of Dan Millynn among others, held a 1-0 lead after Dan Kelly found the back of the net in the 31st minute.
The second half was a grind, but City held the advantage in the Jelbart Park derby until Michael Brownsea equalised in the 78th minute.
It was game on from there, until United’s Caleb Martin booted the winning goal in the 89th minute.
“It was a really even contest, Albury City looked much closer to fielding their best team,” United coach Matt Campbell said.
“They’ll push a few top teams on the run home.
“Our boys dug in and got the result, young players like Josh Hollands stood up well, they were positives for us.
“Like every team, three points is all you want at this time of year.”
