“IF we can roll it off the truck with some pace in it, we should have a pretty good weekend,” Albury’s David Reynolds said in the lead-up to Townsville’s V8 Supercars round.

Reynolds then topped the timesheet for the first practice session on Friday and ran at the front for most of the weekend.
He followed up a top-10 finish in Saturday’s race by qualifying fifth for Sunday’s feature race and was second after the first corner.
A stellar drive proved Reynolds is still very much a force to be reckoned with. A late safety car saw several drivers head into pit lane for fresh tyres, but unfortunately Reynolds wasn’t one of them.
“I was having a fantastic race but we just make a call,” Reynolds said.
“I saw Courtney (James) pit from behind me and I thought it was a smart move.
“In the last few laps I just got swamped, but I was having a good battle with Chaz Mostert and all the other guys with no tyre life left.”
Reynolds was in the top couple of cars for most of the race but more importantly he was fast all weekend.
“When you look at today and the weekend, we’ve had a pretty good one,” he said.
“We qualified well, we raced in the top couple of spots.
“Our tyre life was much improved; so all our work is starting to come off.
“I’m really happy to be up the front again.
“I’ve just to keep doing it week in week out.”
The news wasn’t as good for the Brad Jones Racing Team with bad luck seeming to plague Tim Slade and Jason Bright in the two races.
Slades’ day turned sour only 100 metres from the start in Sunday’s race with Todd Kelly and Slade making contact.
It was enough to flatten both right hand side tyres on Slade’s car.
He had to pit at the end of lap and took the opportunity to fuel up as well and put on new tyres.
A mid-race safety car gave the cars opportunity to do their final pit and take on enough fuel to finish the race.
After this he was in 23rd position.
Slade was slowly moving forward through the order and crossed the line in 13th position, a repeat of Saturday’s result.
“We struggled with the car in qualifying and I didn’t get the best start,” Slade said.
“I tried to move across to the inside and Todd Kelly was there.
“He was trying to get through the gap there and there was someone on the other side of him.”
Jason Bright had a much better day, finishing in ninth spot.
The next round of the series will be held at Queensland Raceway on July 24.
