“The only thing I do is share evidence-based research, we have a public profile as a family,” she said.
“I believe when you have a public profile you have a responsibility to share information.”
Next week Therese will visit the Border to speak at a luncheon and an evening event about the chemicals in everyday products and their impact on health.
“Just arming people with the knowledge so they can make informed choices if they choose,” she said. “It’s really crazy what we do to ourselves and how we just assume that the products are safe.”
Event organiser Kinta Gitsham said hearing Therese speak for the first time proved “life changing”.
“I’m a mother of a child diagnosed on the spectrum, ADHD and I myself have had anxiety and depression with postnatal depression for the last eight years,” Mrs Gitsham said. “I have been on the path of finding out incredible information that’s helping us relieve all our symptoms, so I’m very passionate about that.”
Ten dollars from every ticket sold will be donated to the Aspire Commercial Club Community Grants Scheme.
Aspire board director Lizzie Pogson said the grants helped individuals, families, sporting and community groups with links to people with disabilities.
Examples include aids for school or home, iPads or assistance with travelling to attend information sessions.
“We have lots of requests to help with mobility, for scooters or strollers for little ones, just mobility aids,” Mrs Pogson said. “It gives us an opportunity to raise awareness in the community of people with disability and help enable their ability to do things, I suppose.
“The need far outstretches the money we have and it just seems to be increasing.”
The two events on Thursday, July 21, are the Organic Long Luncheon between 10.30am and 2.30pm at La Maison Cafe and the evening function at Atura Albury from 6pm.
Tickets are available through eventbrite.com.au.
