Playing without Country representatives Kyle McCarthy, Nathan Rose, Hayden Jeans and Jack Lyons, Southcity displayed remarkable resilience and determination to upstage the Diesels.

On the day marked to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Junee’s last Group Nine title success in 1986, Southcity snatched a late try to nail down their victory in the mud and slush.

Fittingly, skipper Skinner made a barnstorming charge and offloaded under pressure to set up the decisive try for flashy fullback Jade Hodge in the 71st minute.

Skinner paid a glowing tribute to his makeshift team.

“This is the proudest I’ve been since I joined the club,” Skinner said.

“All the guys who came into the team really did a terrific job.

“It was a great win.”

Southcity has lost only once in 13 matches in Group 9 this season.
