The hearing examines preparation and planning undertaken for fire seasons and looks at planning, implementation and impacts of preventative burning

December’s Barnawartha bushfire is likely to feature prominently. The blaze, sparked by a gum tree falling on power lines in high winds, burnt more than 7000 hectares, razed four homes and killed almost 1000 stock.

Community groups, councils and agencies which the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning co-ordinate will be able to put their views to the upper house Environment and Planning Committee.

The first of three inquiries takes place in Melbourne on Tuesday. The Cube will play host to the Border hearing from 2pm and Euroa will host a subsequent event on Thursday. Submissions are still being received until July 29. For more information, visit http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/epc/article/3023.
