The defending Sheffield Shield champions will conduct a comprehensive hunt and are keeping an open mind on the type of applicant they are looking for.

Former Victorian allrounder Andrew McDonald, currently coaching Leicestershire, has been linked to the role, along with former Test opener and ex-Bushranger Chris Rogers, who captains Somerset. Darren Berry, Matthew Mott and Tim Coyle have also been mentioned, but Shane Warne's manager James Erskine ruled out the former leg-spinner.

"It's just not viable," Erskine said. It's understood Warne has two years to run on his summer commentary contract with Channel Nine, which he enjoys.

Bushrangers' chief executive Tony Dodemaide said on Monday Graf would return with a list of possible applicants.

"He is doing a bit of research for us there but we'll get his report. I think he is back at the end of the week," he said.

"But we'll also, obviously, be considering other options as well. It's not as if anyone over there is particularly assured of getting a role. It's just a matter of doing good due diligence. It's an important decision for us.

"I think we have just to accept there is a lot of ...experienced coaches and some up-and-coming coaches as well."

Saker had also led the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League last season, while his predecessor with the Bushrangers, Greg Shipperd, had also concurrently led the Stars. But Dodemaide said the new state coach would not necessarily take charge of the Renegades.

"It worked really well for David coming back and we had that in the past previously with 'Shippy', who was Bushrangers and also Stars as well," he said.

"If it's the right person and they can do a really good job in both ..  but we certainly won't be insisting to the Renegades anyone we pick up has to be their coach as well."

The Bushrangers will unveil their 2016-17 schedule on Tuesday. The summer begins with the Matador one-day cup held through October, but this year matches will also be played in Perth. The Bushrangers will have their opening two matches at the WACA.

Their Shield defence begins on October 25 in a day-night clash against Tasmania at the MCG. Five matches will be held before a break for the BBL. The Bushrangers will host a match at Traeger Park in the Northern Territory - against Western Australia - for a third-straight year.

Dodemaide said CV was looking forward to having construction on the $40 million redevelopment of the Junction Oval completed in time for the 2017-18 campaigns of the Bushrangers and Vic Spirit.

"It will be out of commission completely for this season coming up and, all being well, the ground will be back in commission for next season, and probably midway through that season in terms of full occupation of the offices and off-field training spaces," he said.
