It gets one out into nature, but it could also help save two critically endangered species. 

Hosted by Birdlife Australia, a survey over the weekend of August 6-7 will track swift parrots and regent honeyeaters in the North East.

The environmental group needs volunteers to help collect valuable long-term data on the two birds.

A big group of 50 swift parrots was recently sighted in the Warby-Ovens National Park, feeding on flowering ironbark and grey box eucalyptus. 

Meanwhile, Birdlife Australia confirmed re-sightings of captive release regent honeyeaters in Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park and even just west of Albury, demonstrating they could mix with a pre-existing wild population.
