The Indigo Shire councillor’s ongoing interactions with women have added to his motivation to make domestic violence a priority issue for local governments. Cr Teissl has organised a charity dinner for the White Ribbon Foundation at The Vine Chiltern and will put forward a motion for council to support the organisation.
“It’s creating awareness within businesses and groups, so they understand it’s an issue for women in the workplace and in their homes,” he said.
“I don’t think a lot of men exactly realise how intimidating it can be.
“We need to have other people stand up and say ‘I don’t think that’s correct and you need to apologise’.
“(The motion is) basically that Indigo Shire become an advocate for White Ribbon, not just for this year but going forward.”
The three-course dinner will be held on Friday, costing $50. Call 0475 044 866 to book a seat.
