The council’s engineering and works committee this week recommended a tender of $3.6 million from AP Delaney & Co be accepted.
The original budget for the job, which has to be completed by the end of the year, was $6.3 million.
Two other contenders for the job submitted similar tender prices.
A tender for an upgrade to Diggers Road will also come in nearly $200,000 under the budgeted allocation.
The council's engineering director Brad Ferris said competition for major works was presently strong with the Nexus works considered a plum job.
“We’ve found that with most of our civil contracts in recent times,” he said.
“It’s great to have some real competition out there in the market-place.
“This project obviously appealed to these contractors in the sense access is very good and it is a greenfield site.
“Only weather will prevent rapid progress.”
The Nexus hub at Ettamogah is the next industrial land frontier for Albury Council with stage-one works to include construction of internal roads, stormwater drainage, sewer and water reticulation, electrical and telecommunication conduits and a roundabout.
The Diggers Road reconstruction works from Reservoir Road to Oliver Street will be undertaken by Excell Gray Bruni for $437,371.
Meanwhile, Cr Kevin Mack has again expressed his frustration in council not being able to source funding for additional off-ramps at the Davey Road interchange near Nexus.
Cr Mack said the Davey Road situation remained a major source of frustration for council.
“I’ve experienced first-hand how difficult a place it is to access,” he said.
“Hopefully we can make a stronger case to government in the future.”
