With the home team leading by four points at the final change, Murray broke the match open to put Josh Maher’s side in the box seat for the double chance.
“Derek’s two goals were the difference in the end,” Maher said.
“There was nothing in it before then.
“He pulled the first one out of his hat from a set shot on the boundary near the scoreboard.
“We were mucking around there on Thursday night and he couldn’t kick one from that spot.”
It was another gutsy win by the Magpies who are fuming over a decision by Hume league directors to reinstate four points to their player list for Maher.
Dylan Hartin led the victory charge by tagging Nick Holman out of the match while Shannon Gilson and Maher continued their strong form in the midfield.
Michael Sims and Ben Clements were also strong in the heavy conditions.
“I thought our backline was really good,” Maher said.
“They kept it tight in a game where their was nothing between the sides.
“It’s an important win but we can’t lower our guard in the run home.”
Kris Holman mopped up superbly for Jindera across half-back with support coming from Jacob Millar and Lewis Childs.
An inaccurate Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock defeated CDHBU by eight points at Burrumbuttock.
With experienced heads Luke Brauer and Dean Murphy leading the way, the home team had 13 scoring shots to two in the first-half and almost paid for not putting the opposition away.
CDHBU kicked five goals to two after half-time with Damien Wilson, Tim Cooper and Matt Howard leading the comeback.
Howlong dished out a 77-point hiding to Lockhart at Howlong.
The Spiders dominated after quarter-time with Clement Kerinaiua, Ben Baker, Alex Dilger and Joe Pargeter in the thick of the action.
Lockhart struggled to get the ball forward with Andrew Emery best for the Demons.
Holbrook defeated Rand-Walbundrie-Walla by 43 points.
With Tyson Neander kicking five goals in his best match for the Brookers, the home team dominated the second and third quarters to clinch their third win of the season.
John Spencer, Brad Carman and Will Heriot also played well in the heavy conditions.
Billabong Crows stayed in touch with the top six by defeating Culcairn by 13 points.
