38-27 was the scoreline in the Steamers’ final outing for the season, valiant in defeat against an impressive Griffith outfit.
The visitors were able to jump away to a 15-0 lead at half-time, but couldn't hang on as the Blacks charged home.
Assistant coach Blake le Cornu said he was proud of the way the side had finished the season.
“It was a better effort for the last game of the season, and against one of the bigger backlines in the competition,” he said.
“When you lose a lot of experienced players, the communication they bring to the field goes with them, particularly on defence.
“But players like Roussow Visser, Josh Ryan and Ed Currenti showed that they have great potential, myself and House (James Kora) have been working with the younger players a bit more.”
