Melrose has retained the shield on three previous occasions
Wins to the reserve women, under-17 girls and under-14 girls and a draw in the senior women’s game helped St Pats power to their first shield win.
Senior mens coach Steven Chater was over the moon to have the shield dedicated to his late mother in the club’s possession.
“It’s good that it gets mixed up, now that we’ve got it we want to keep it,” he said.
“It came on the back of the women’s results, Josh O’Farrell has been doing a fantastic job coaching them and they’re really come along.
“It’s great to get our hands on the shield, but as far as my mother goes, she’d be proud of the amount of money we’ve raised for ovarian cancer awareness and research.”
The club has donated more than $5000 in the last five years.
