Skip Stephen Broad believes North Albury’s best is good enough.

“If we all perform at our best I believe we can bring home the state flag which would be a first for North Albury and the first since 2001 in the Albury and District,” Broad said.

Howlong won a state title in grade five in 1987 while SS&A tasted success in grade three in 1993 and 2001.

Broad took out the Albury and District champion of champion singles title played at Commercial Club at the weekend.

He defeated Lavington’s Bill Collins in the final.

But Collins, a former pennant captain at the now defunct Hume Country Golf Club, produced some top results considered his short time playing the sport.

Collins won his first game against Howlong champion John Boyd.

In his semi-final, Collins defeated Ron Bonat after conceding a sizeable start.

Earlier Bonat defeated Henty champion Peter Forck in a high standard game.

Broad won his opening game against Walla's Lee Churches.

The score was 19-all, but Broad drew away in the latter stages.

Then he won his semi-final against Commercial Club's Ted Meiers in a top-class display with scores close until the dying stages.

Broad advances to the Zone 8 titles.
