The Greens will be contesting the Albury election with a confirmed ticket of five candidates including Dr Cohn, environmental engineer Geoffrey Hudson, drug and alcohol counsellor Jill Pattinson, retired social worker Helen Harbutt and former Greens federal candidate Chris Sobey.
Dr Cohn polled almost 3800 first-preference votes in the Albury local government area in the recent federal election with the Greens picking up more than 20 per cent of the vote at some booths.
Dr Cohn and Mr Hudson attended the Albury Council meeting on Monday night.
“We had a really successful federal election campaign and we found our Greens’ values and ideas resonated really well with people in Albury,” she said.
“We got over 15 per cent of the vote in Albury so it is a really exciting time for us to build the movement on a local level.”
The Greens’ council priorities include improved public transport, environmental sustainability and public health.
