Peter Copley’s charges have been the form team of the competition, winning 10 matches on the trot before going down to Mitta United at Mitta last weekend.
The fourth-placed Bulldogs will leap ahead of the Cats with victory on Saturday but can kiss their hopes of a double chance goodbye with defeat.
The Cats are four points clear of Thurgoona and have potential percentage-boosting matches against Wodonga Saints and Yackandandah to round out the season, whereas the Bulldogs face Chiltern and fellow top-three aspirant Kiewa-Sandy Creek.
Copley is under no illusion as to the task ahead of his team.
“It’s the same as last week, every game for us is important with the run we’ve got towards the finals series,” he said.
“We can’t afford to drop a game. Mitta were just too good for us. We can’t have any excuses, we were just outplayed.”
Kade Brown returned from a long injury lay-off against Mitta and will be better for the run.
In other matches, Tallangatta should bounce back against Wahgunyah despite the Lions pushing Kiewa-Sandy Creek all the way last week, the Hawks will need to be on their toes against Beechworth, Barnawartha should record a big win over Wodonga Saints and Mitta United will be too good for Dederang-Mt Beauty.
