It will see a mass exodus of talent from Western Australia as premier female players, including the supremely skilled Chelsea Randall, become the new faces of Adelaide, Greater Western Sydney and Brisbane.

The fact that six footballers bestowed with "marquee" status have agreed to leave WA for enticements beyond a proposed $25,000 playing contract will be formalised on Wednesday at a nationally coordinated announcement.

A skewed competition posed one of the biggest risks to the inaugural, eight-week women's competition to launch next year with Victoria and WA boasting the richest talent pool and the pickings in South Australia and New South Wales being comparatively slim.

With just one team in WA for the foundation AFL women's competition, compared to four in Melbourne, Fremantle in particular stood to dominate in a scenario counter to the AFL's envisioned equalised competition.

The risk appears to have been mitigated, however, by the imminent move of Randall – a genuine coup of a recruit for Adelaide – Sabrina Frederick-Taube, Emma Swanson, Renee Forth, Emma King and Kellie Gibson who will all be announced as marquee players on Wednesday and all hail from WA.

Fairfax Media can also confirm that Collingwood have landed the gifted Moana Hope, a forward full of X-factor, as one of their two marquee players.

Carlton have picked the skilled Darcy Vescio, who is already an AFL multicultural ambassador, while Fremantle have landed Kara Donnellan – nicknamed "Juddy" after Chris Judd, such is her midfield prowess.

The country's top female AFL midfielder, Daisy Pearce, is not budging from Melbourne. Pearce made it clear when the eight foundation female league clubs were announced last month she had no desire to play anywhere else. Somewhat controversially, Pearce even went as far as telling Fairfax Media at that June 15 team licence announcement that she would consider hanging up her boots if she was placed anywhere but Melbourne.

As it turned out, the Demons were the only club that even nominated Pearce on their five-woman, marquee player wish list that was submitted to the AFL last month.

Clearly the seven other clubs felt they were no chance of landing her.

Equally anticipated before Wednesday's official announcement is the fact that key forward Katie Brennan will be a Western Bulldog and Tayla Harris is the face of Brisbane's women's side.

Since the eight foundation clubs were announced, the manner in which the unique marquee player process has worked is said to have pleased the AFL, with some degree of surprise.

Clubs are entitled to two marquee players each and had to lodge their five preferred in order of preference with the AFL.

It's understood there was a crossover with just three players by the end of the exercise and in each case it was the player who had the ultimate say about where she would play.

Players formed their position on their impressions of the clubs – a number are understood to have been flown interstate to inspect facilities – and, probably more compellingly, the remuneration and opportunities being offered.

Adelaide have clearly offered a package to Randall that was too good to refuse.

It is a major move for the East Pilbara regional manager for Swans Districts Football Club and winner of this year's AFL Jill Lindsay scholarship, awarded to a woman seen as a significant future leader in the code.

The full women's playing lists for each club will be finalised after a further draft that will see every player nominate which state she wants to play and live in, and this wish guaranteed to be respected.
