With the International Rowing Federation banning Russia from the games this week, Rowing Australia faced the inevitable job of reassembling its team.
The decision is an incredible boost for Australian women’s sweep rowing and women’s rowing in general.

Sutherland was resting up at home when she received the call.
The team hasn’t competed together since May 24 and will row in the heats at Rio on August 8.
One member of the women’s team – Alex Hagan – played football in Melbourne last weekend.
“We are thrilled that our women’s eight will be able to be nominated to the Olympic team for Rio,” Rowing Australia chairman Rob Scott said.
“The decision is an incredible boost for Australian women’s sweep rowing and women’s rowing in general.
“To have more women being given the opportunity to compete at the pinnacle level of their sport will provide the inspiration for others to follow in their footsteps.”
