Daniel Brennan and Jye McBurnie, both 15, are organising Cuppa for Cancer, a high tea planned for August 14 at Atura Albury from 1pm.
The event will raise money for three breast cancer charities – Breast Cancer Network Australia, McGrath Foundation and the Albury-Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
Jye said these choices arose from their own families’ experiences and also the prevalence of breast cancer.
“The statistics are very high and very sad because a lot of people do know someone affected,” he said.
Daniel said they wanted to plan a function that would appeal to those keen to support their cause.
“We think that a high tea has a bit of class and people think, ‘Yes, I might go to that’,” he said.
Two survivors associated with the Brave Hearts Wig Library will speak at the high tea, which the two year 10 students are organising as a Wodonga Senior Secondary College impact project.
“Daniel and I put our heads together and we decided to make quite a large impact,” Jye said.
