The fire started in a bedroom – possibly as a result of a cigarette left unattended – about 3.30pm.
The bedroom of the Smythe Street home was badly damaged but the two occupants were uninjured.
The heat caused windows to break and smoke filled the property.
The roof was also damaged by fire.
The fire was declared safe by firefighters after about 30 minutes.
