The festival, in its seventh year, is now one of the biggest events at the track outside V8 Supercars.
Winton CEO Wayne Williams said the growth in popularity of the event had been amazing.
“We have competitors from as far away as Perth and Adelaide here,” he said.
“The fields in each category are full with 42 cars taking part in the main event and we have had record crowds so it’s been fantastic.”
Carey McMahon brought his number 20 1990 Ford Sierra that was built especially for the 1990 Bathurst race.
“It was built in Australia but they made it left-hand drive because that is best at Bathurst. It still has the original paint,” Mr McMahon said.
“It was in a private collection for over 20 years and not raced.
“I bought it last year and it is incredible to drive.
“The power is like an explosion; it goes from 100 horse power to over 500 in a split second.
“This is a great event – Benalla lights up for us, the racing is terrific, the crowds are great and the weather is perfect.
“This is one of the best weekends on the calendar.”
