Club stalwart Steve Hayes said continuing the rivalry between last season's league champions and runners-up was a perfect way to get set for finals.
“Approaching finals you need to have good, hard hitouts,” he said.
“Matches between Albury United and Boomers have historically been that way.
“Personally I think it's a good thing to have hard matches leading into the finals.
“We've got Cobram next week as well, we've got probably one of the tougher draws in the last couple of weeks.
“Anyone in the top eight is more than capable of knocking any other team over.”
The Boomers-United clash isn't the only big game to be played this weekend.
The improving Albury City play host to Cobram in what is a crucial test for the hosts.
Melrose face Hotspurs, St Pats tackle Myrtleford, Wangaratta host Heart and Diamonds play Twin City.
