A forum hosted by Wodonga Council on Thursday heard from council staff, real estate agents and workers from the housing and financial sectors about these concerns.
Facilitator Andrew Brown, of Deakin University, said the event discussed solutions such as education and developer incentives.
“There’s a lot of homes that are really well suited for families but there’s not as many homes for singles, for example, or older adults that are heading into retirement age,” Mr Brown said.
The council said Wodonga’s population was forecast to reach 50,000 by 2033.
“Poor housing affordability and homelessness is of major and increasing concern,” mayor Anna Speedie said.
