Midson will take charge of the club he led to the 2003-04 premiership for the first time in a decade when the Cricket Albury-Wodonga District season starts in less than two months.
He returns to Howlong after stints at Dederang, Wodonga Raiders and North Albury and said he was excited by the challenge of leading the Spiders, who won just one match last season, up the table.
Midson said working with exciting youngsters Dean Simmons and Darren Keenes was a key factor in taking on the job.
“It’s always good to get back to the club where you live,” he said.
“We’ve obviously got a bit of work to do but a lot of it is going to be about opportunities for these young guys.
“If they do the work, they’ll get opportunities.”
Nick Dolan has joined the Spiders from North Albury and will bolster their young list.
