Everything from fishing and lakes to co-ops and recycling initiatives were recognised during the process.

The Beechworth community and businesses also stood out with the ‘Supermarket fire brings out the best in people’ project.

Indigo Shire mayor James Trenery said both communities continued to impress with a variety of resourceful and imaginative activities.

“It is very pleasing to see the number and quality of projects which have been included in the running for state awards,” he said.

“And of course the highest praise must go to all those people who help, build and maintain their communities and cultures,” he said.
