The Patties are riding a 14-match winning streak after going down to Wodonga Raiders Blue in the opening round and will take plenty of confidence out of a 52-point win over Scots in June.
Scots, who have reached the grand final after finishing 10th last season, paid the price for kicking 2.12 (24) to St Patrick’s 12.4 (76) that day and will need big matches from co-captains Sam Wotherspoon and Jamieson Bouffler, along with Will “Nugget” Holmes, if they’re to turn the tables on the flag favourites.
“It’s crazy, we didn’t expect it at all but we’ve had a good season,” Wotherspoon said.
“We’re stoked to be in the grand final.
“We need everyone to lift.
Co-captains Tom O’Brien and Rohan Gates, and leading goalkicker Kolby Hennessy loom as key players for St Patrick’s when the match gets underway at 1.30pm.
O’Brien refused to read too much into Patties’ comfortable win over Scots in round nine.
“I wouldn’t say it was that comfortable but we got the win,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Patties and Lavington will continue their rivalry in the under-14s at 11.45am.
In the under 12s, Yarrawonga do battle with Wodonga Raiders Red from 10am.
