Properties in the region are gearing up for the upcoming Spring Ram sales to be held over September and October.
The Prentice family from Kurralea say they are anticipating commercial producers travelling to their property in Ariah Park from many areas of NSW and interstate to purchase rams.
Andrew and Jodie Green of Aloeburn Poll Merinos are celebrating 10 years of no mulesing this year and say their goal is to breed sound, productive, efficient sheep which are highly profitable and produce a product which meets the consumer demand.
Their 4,500 head flock is unmulesed and highly fertile and demonstrates excellent wool and muscle characteristics in its progeny. Adult sheep are cutting an average of 7.2kg/head/per annum of 19.5 micron wool and wether lambs are sold from 9-12 months of age with carcasses dressing comparably to first cross wether lambs.
Trigger Vale’s stud principal Andrew Bouffler said the past five years for them have seen the biggest period of growth in the 39-year history of the Trigger Vale Poll and White Suffolk on-property auction sale.
“Volume of rams sold and prices achieved have both increased and it’s not just because we are nice people,” he said.
"The reality is we set a different breeding objective in our poll merino rams than the rest of industry 10 years ago and with the benefit of hindsight you would have to say we have made the right call."
