While it looks like a misprint of epic proportions, it’s actually Cudgewa’s half-back line in the Upper Murray Football Netball League this season.

The McInerney brothers - James, 28, Jesse, 26, and Jack, 23 – are playing senior football together for the first time with most of their weekends being spent together in defence.

“Dad (Paul) played his first game at Cudgewa as a 15-year-old and Pop (Murray) played at the club as well,” James said.

“Pop is a life member.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity to play in the same side and it’s been great.

“They are an awesome bunch of blokes.

“Hopefully we can get a win this week and make the grand final.”

Originally from Kiewa-Sandy Creek, the McInerney brothers have been rock solid for Cudgewa with the trio set to play important roles against Federal in Saturday’s preliminary final at Corryong.

“Jack and I have played on the ball a few times and Jesse pretty much across half-back,” James said.

“It works alright for me.

“I play at centre half-back and make them do the running.

“Jesse and Jack were at Kiewa last year and I had last year off so it’s worked out well this season.”

It would be a surprise if two of the McInerney brothers didn’t spent some time on Federal siblings Darren and Matt Bradshaw on Saturday.

Cudgewa coach Kiale Crowther said the McInerneys had made a huge impact.

“They are like best mates,” Crowther said.

“I couldn’t pick them at the start of the year because they are all just known as ‘Maccas’.”
