Zach Stephen Dacey had hoped to be let off with a good behaviour bond, rather losing his licence, in Albury Local Court on Tuesday.
The Killara man, 21, had tested positive to methamphetamine during a roadside test in Eden Street, Lavington, on November 27 last year.
He initially told police the positive result could have come from pseudoephedrine tablets, but pleaded guilty to the charge in March.
The court heard there may have only been trace amounts of methamphetamine in Dacey’s system.
“It doesn’t matter,” magistrate Tony Murray said.
He noted the law didn’t consider what amount was detected, only that the drug was present.
He knocked back Dacey’s bid and cancelled his licence for three months.
He was also fined $400 and must tell Victorian authorities why he should keep his licence.
