Albury-Wodonga Bandits coach Brad Chalmers was upfront about where his team stood about his team's preliminary final chances on Thursday afternoon.
“For the last month or so we'd been trying to find a way to get into the finals,” he said.
“We've done that, now it's a matter of sticking to what we do well.”
After completing a stunning heist on the road to Geelong last week, the Bandits are once again faced with a difficult road trip.
This time it's against the Hobart Chargers, whom the Bandits have a 1-1 record against this season.
Chalmers said getting on top of the Chargers early would be crucial.
“We just have to be ready to go,” he said.
“The pleasing part of last week's win was that we were prepared to play playoff basketball from the outset.
“You can't afford to waste possessions on the road.
“We need to look after the ball, we need to be aggressive and try to take the out of their stuff.”
The backcourt battle looms as one of the keys to the match-up.
Hobart’s combination of Jarrad Weeks and Tom Wright combined for 37 points in last week's loss to Mt Gambier, while Tiri Masunda also has the potential to be damaging.
Star Bandits guard Deba George failed to fire in both matches against the Chargers, scoring just a combined five points.
But George has found form at the right time, shooting 45 points in his last two games at a solid 43 per cent.
“The stats from their backcourt are there, but if Deba has a good night they’re in trouble,” Chalmers said.
“He's struggled in the last two games against them, but good players don't stay down forever.
“If our backcourt guys play anywhere near their potential, they'll be good enough.”
The Bandits will be boosted by the availability of Darcy Harding, who has recovered well after rolling his ankle against Geelong.
Like Donte Nicholas earlier in the week, Chalmers said the pressure would be on Hobart to live up to their strong regular season.
“It'll be a hot contest, like most playoff games are,” he said.
“Hobart were outplayed against the Pioneers last week, so I'd expect them to bounce back but the pressure is really on them.”
