Only hours after the AFL club axed Leppitsch, Akermanis was installed as a $21 chance to take over the top job.
“It’s a shame for Leppa to have lost his employment with the Brisbane Lions as I know it was his dream to coach at the highest level,” Akermanis said.
“As for me, I will be continuing my ongoing development as a senior coach at North Albury while completing my Masters degree in coaching at the University of Queensland.”
Brett Ratten ($2.50) and Brett Montgomery ($5) are the favourites for the top job.
