Catholic College Wodonga’s intermediate netball team will compete on Friday at Waveley Netball Centre with the year eight squad to play on Monday at the same venue.
The senior team members chose not to attend the finals, despite being eligible, owing to a clash with a significant school event, Catholic College Day.
College sport and recreation manager Justine Willis said three out of four school squads won the Upper Hume and Hume competitions, both played at Wangaratta, to progress to state level.
“It’s difficult to get any teams through to state, so this is a fantastic achievement for the girls,” Willis said.
Galen Catholic College, Wangaratta, will represent Hume region in the year 7 finals.
The Wodonga intermediate side, coached by Kelli Moylan, is drawn to meet schools from Kyneton, Mildura and Colac in its pool.
Teams from Melbourne, Bendigo and Horsham wait for the year 8 side, which will be guided by coach Lauren Bremner.
The round robin matches are followed by semi-finals between the top two teams in each pool, with the winners to contest the final.
“It will be tough competition, but the girls are all really excited and looking forward to it,” Willis said.
“You always want to go down and do well, but just for the girls to play their best and have fun.
“And whatever results come of that, happen.”
