In a bid help avoid the club's disastrously slow start to the season last season, Barnes informed the club he would accept an optional third-year on his contract last week.
The Bushies finished ninth this season, defeating the likes of Wahgunyah, Chiltern and Tallangatta on the run home to end their season on a high note.
Barnes said he had committed early on to give himself time to unwind before recruiting gets into full swing.
“It's good to get locked in nice and early, we can look to get started on some recruiting as soon as the season is over almost,” he said.
“We're looking at bringing in some key position players.
“We finished the year with some strong form, hopefully that will translate into some momentum heading into next season.”
With two years of senior coaching experience behind him now, Barnes said he was now well equipped to haul the club back up the ladder.
“It's taken a fair bit of work behind the scenes to get to where we are now,” he said.
“We've made some positive steps in terms of junior football and netball.
“Those are things I simply didn't consider when I first took on the job.
“To have the club heading in the right direction on the back of hard work from our volunteers and committee is a great feeling.”
Beechworth are holding a hall of fame function on Sunday the 11th from 11:30am at Barrmutha Park.
