It is why programs such as the inaugural Sunshine Week are important to help raise money to keep the new Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre operating with the latest technology.
Money from the week-long Sunshine Week fundraising event, which runs from Sunday, September 11, to September 18, will be used to purchase lifesaving cancer equipment, support local cancer research, assist medical personnel with training in the latest cancer technologies and fund the children’s treatment space and Wellness Centre.
Sunshine Week has been organised by the wonderful team at The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund, which was established with the sole purpose of raising money to support Border cancer services.
The week has been chosen to help the community embrace the campaign, and learn about the important role the new centre plays for the health and wellbeing of those needing to access its services.
People are encouraged to become involved by hosting a community event such as a spring morning tea, with a gold coin donation, to help the ongoing campaign.
If you haven’t considered chipping in until now then Sunshine Week provides a perfect opportunity to do something to help a 100 per cent Border charity, and it keeps your donations on the Border.
The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre has the most modern cancer treatment facilities and will unite Border cancer services under one roof offering a place to educate, support, research, diagnose and treat all forms of cancer.
It is to be officially opened this month but is expected to start services at the Borella Road site from today, a historic day for those who have worked so hard to provide the central service facility.
The centre – five years in the making – had the tick of approval recently when patients, carers and survivors toured the venue and many of those people from around the region will appreciate the convenience of having all services at one place, rather than scattered at numerous venues across Albury and Wodonga.
We should give Sunshine Week a tick of approval as well.
With so many charities asking for support, it is good to select a cause that is close to home in so many ways.
