Heather contested her first IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, completing the 1.9 kilometre swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run in four hours, 45 minutes and 40 seconds.
More than 2700 people took part in the race after progressing through one of about 85 qualifying events held worldwide.
A former professional cyclist, Heather overtook many of her rivals during the ride leg.
After finishing the swim 39th in the female 30-34 years age group, she improved her position to third during the cycle and held on to this placing in the run home.
She was the 39th female to finish behind Great Britain’s Holly Lawrence.
Heather, part of the Specialized Women’s Racing team, won the Wagga to Albury cycling classic women’s section in July.
