ALEX Jones has spent most of the past six seasons plying his trade on a football field in Lavington.

But after three seasons as a Panther and two as a Murray Magpie, the 23-year-old’s crowning moment came as a Tiger.

Jones arrived at the Albury Sportsground with little fanfare over the summer but proved his worth by playing every game as the Tigers went through the season undefeated.

Asked if he could have dreamed of a better season, Jones replied: “No way, not the way I was going”.

“I had taken the foot off the pedal a bit but I ramped it up this year and I’m loving it.

“It wasn’t until nearly the end of pre-season when I got a bit of a head-bashing off the coaches that I put my head down and started doing a bit extra work.

“I got fitter and really put my head to it.

“Hard work pays off.

“Playing against the former side, it made it a bit hard to run out here on grand final day, but to get up was a massive effort by the boys.”
