The Robust Porter was awarded best beer in the Sydney Royal Beer and Cider Show on Friday, beating hundreds of other entrants from across the country.
Bridge Road Brewers owner Ben Kraus said it was a last-minute decision to enter the show for the first time – and it paid off.
“We didn’t expect to win – of the five beers we entered, all won a medal,” he said.
“I think some people presume a dark beer will be harsh but it’s a smooth, luscious, chocolatey beer.
“We have a lot of support in this area, so we knew the beer was good … we’re looking to find more access in the Sydney market.”
