Wodonga Sergeant Patsy Haynes said the Honda was travelling north along a straight section of road in very heavy rain about 5,45am.
“He’s tried to slow down and he’s veered off and hit the wire barrier,” she said.
The car overturned, but stayed within the barriers.
The baby boy sustained head injuries in the crash and was taken to Albury Hospital in a stable condition.
Paramedics also treated a teenage girl with leg injuries and a man in his 20s with cuts to his head, and another man in his 20s was taken to hospital for observation.
All the passengers lived outside the North East.
Sergeant Haynes said no other cars were involved in the crash, which was a result of the poor weather conditions.
Northbound lanes of the freeway were closed while emergency services were on the scene.
