Heavy rain and surface water on the track were blamed for the cancellation.
More than 60 millimetres of rain had fallen on the track over the last seven days.
Racing Victoria operations manager Paul Bloodworth told Racing.com it was a tough outcome for the Benalla Racing Club.
"It is disappointing for the Benalla Racing Club to lose today's Cup meeting having worked so hard to develop the profile of the meeting in its new timeslot on the AFL Grand Final public holiday," Bloodworth said.
In other racing news, Corowa's scheduled meet on Sunday has been moved to Tuesday.
