Forward Liam Wiscombe is chasing selection in the NRL outfit’s SG Ball line-up, while second-rower Rhys Mitsch is vying for the Harold Matthews’ squad.
The pair is following a Raiders’ program under the guidance of Thunder under-16 coach Steve Ballard and the club’s three-time first grade premiership mentor Josh Cale.
“Rhys is in only his second year in league after playing Aussie Rules,” Ballard said.
“He is great to coach, you only have to tell him something once. He is a natural.”
Wiscombe’s father Paul was a premiership player for Wagga Brothers in 1995.
“Liam plays with a lot of fire in his belly,” Ballard said.
“He hits the line hard.”
The pair will attend a training camp in Canberra later this month, with the squad to be culled further following that.
The duo capped fine seasons by claiming the Thunder’s best and fairest in their respective age groups.
